MN Permit to Carry Application Process

also known as Conceal and Carry License

  • You must apply in person at the Sheriff’s Office in the county of your residence.

  • You must present a current Minnesota driver’s license, state-issued ID, or a passport (or a legible photocopy).

  • You must be at least 18 years old, a US citizen, or a permanent resident.

  • A Minnesota permit to carry is valid for five years. The permit to carry also acts as a permit to purchase.

  • You must present a current certificate of completion of a Minnesota Permit to Carry Class taught by a BCA-certified instructor (certificates are valid for one year from the date it was issued). The course offered through Liberty Arms Training is an approved course.

  • Applications must be filled out completely; incomplete or inaccurate applications may be denied.

  • Application approval may take up to 30 days, depending on a detailed background check.
